I have had a mad love affair with trees for many years. They never cease to amaze and inspire me. In this course, we're going to take a closer look at trees. And when I say closer, I mean closer!
This course is about getting up close and cozy with trees. It's about really looking closely and seeing them in a new way. This is about exploring the details of the tree and creating art based on what you find. You may create art that looks like a part of a tree; bark, leaves, roots, branches. Or you may use those things as a jumping-off point for an abstract art piece. Along the way, you'll get a peek into the worlds that exist in a single tree, and the wisdom the trees have to offer. |
In Up Close and Personal With Trees, you won't paint individual trees or forests, but instead, you will trek outdoors, get to know trees a bit better, reflect on the wisdom they have to offer, and how, perhaps, they are representations of ourselves.
We'll take a closer look at tree bark, roots, leaves, and branches. You'll head out on your own to a local park, forest, or city street...wherever you can find trees! There you will look closely at the trees, seeking out interesting roots, bark, branches, or leaves, depending on the week. You will create some field sketches and take photographs, then create paintings, in whatever medium you like. |
