It can be difficult trying to learn to paint on your own.
There is a ton of information out there, and it can be pretty confusing. Meet me online for a private session. I'll help you sort through the confusion, and get you headed in the right direction. Private painting lessons and coaching coaching sessions are open to adults and kids age 12 (or so) and up.
Private lessons are more structured than coaching sessions and focus on color theory, technique, composition... learning the basics and applying them to paintings. Purchase a block of 8 weeks (one hour-long lesson per week) for the discounted rate of $324, or pay as you go; $45/hr. Coaching sessions are for students who need help with a specific painting or are feeling stuck and need a bit of guidance. $45/hr Private lessons and coaching sessions are custom tailored to individual interests and experience levels, and are available in oils or acrylics If you'd like to learn with a friend, semi-private lessons are available for $68 and hour or $489 for an 8-week session. What to bring to your first online lesson:
Bring what supplies you have (paint, brushes, a canvas or canvas board), and we'll discuss what else you'll need. If you want help with something you're currently working on, bring it in. If you have examples (pictures or originals) of things you've done in the past, I'd love to see them! What to expect:
In your first session we'll discuss your experience and your goals, and come up with a lesson plan that works for you. Areas that may be covered: (based on your experience and knowledge):

My philosophy
I don't believe there is a right way or a wrong way to paint - there are a thousand different ways to approach any painting. While there is no right or wrong, there are results; some results you like, some you don't. And there are happy accidents! The process of becoming an artist is - in part- learning how to replicate what you did to get the results you like, as well as how those happy accidents happen! I guide, instruct and encourage my students. I balance that with some creative freedom, eventually encouraging them to use their intuition and work from the gut. There is a scientific aspect to the fundamentals of art, but this is art after all, not science. It's good to know the basics, but fundamentally, painting is a form of expression. Think of it like this: toddlers can express themselves, but they do it better once they get a better grip on verbal language. Likewise, once you understand the language of painting, you'll be better able to express yourself on canvas. ![]() To schedule a session, email me and let me know what level painter you consider yourself (it's okay if you've never painted!), whether you'd like to use acrylics or oils, and what your availability is (daytime, weekends, evenings.)
I'll get back to you asap! Looking forward to painting with you! Cancellation Policy
If you need to cancel, please give me at least 24 hours notice, and we can reschedule with no extra charge. If you cancel within 24 hours of your lesson, you will receive half credit towards another lesson. No credit will be given if you fail to call or show up for your lesson. |
