Recommended Art Supplies for Beginners

If you want to start painting at home, you need to know where to start. The world of art supplies can be vast and confusing! Let me help you demystify it with a few recommendations...

Paint
Liquitex Basics is a good paint to start out with. You can get a starter kit, or you can buy the colors individually.
The colors most commonly used in my classes are:
  • Dark blue (ultramarine or phthalo blue)
  • Yellow (meduim, deep, or lemon)
  • Red (cadmium deep or medium)
  • White
  • Black
  • Burnt Sienna

Brushes
It's good to have a variety of brushes to choose from. I prefer nylon or taklon brushes for acrylic painting.
